Terms of service

Terms of use and sale

These terms apply to use of The Doorstep Edit website and consumer purchases made through it. Please read them before ordering and keep a copy for your records. Nothing in these terms removes or limits your statutory consumer rights.

About The Doorstep Edit

The Doorstep Edit is operated by Edward Harden, a sole trader trading as The Doorstep Edit. Our business and correspondence address is 61 Albert Bridge Road, London SW11 4QA, United Kingdom, and our email address is hello@thedoorstepedit.co.uk.

We are the seller and your point of contact for orders, even where a production or fulfilment partner makes or dispatches your item. The website and checkout are hosted by Shopify; Shopify is not the seller of our products.

Using our website

You must be at least 18 to place an order, or have an adult place it on your behalf. Please provide accurate information and use only payment methods you are authorised to use.

You must not misuse the website, interfere with its security, introduce harmful code, infringe another person's rights, or submit unlawful, abusive or fraudulent content. We may restrict misuse of the website where reasonably necessary, without affecting rights relating to an existing order.

Our branding, designs, photographs and website content belong to us or our licensors. You may view and save information for your personal shopping use, but may not reproduce it commercially without permission. External websites have their own terms and privacy notices.

Products and personalisation

The product description shown when you order sets out the item's characteristics, available size, materials, care guidance and any relevant limitations. Please check these details and the suitability of the item before purchase.

Some images may be labelled as design concepts, digital previews or illustrations rather than photographs of the finished product. Screens and natural materials can create minor visual differences, but products must still match their description and any agreed specification. These statements do not excuse a material difference or defect.

Please check spelling, initials, names, numbers, punctuation, personalisation choices and delivery details before submitting your order. We use the details supplied. If you notice a mistake, email us promptly; we will try to make the change, but cannot promise it once production has begun. If a change is possible and involves an additional cost, we will ask you to agree before proceeding.

Please only submit wording or artwork that you are entitled to use. You give us and our production partners permission to reproduce it solely as needed to fulfil and support your order. We do not acquire ownership of your submitted content.

Orders, prices and payment

Product availability, prices, delivery charges and accepted payment methods are shown before you complete checkout. Prices are in pounds sterling unless stated otherwise and include any applicable taxes displayed as part of the consumer price. The total payable is shown before you commit to payment.

Placing an order is an offer to buy. A contract is formed when we email you an order confirmation accepting your order; a payment-provider receipt alone is not acceptance. If we cannot accept an order, we will tell you and refund any payment taken for it.

If we discover an obvious pricing or description error before accepting your order, we will explain it and give you the option to proceed on the corrected basis or cancel for a full refund. We will not substitute a product or materially change an accepted order without your agreement.

Payment is taken or authorised through the methods offered at checkout. Any promotion is subject to the conditions clearly stated with it. Changes to future prices or promotions do not change an order already accepted.

Delivery

Available destinations, charges and estimated production and delivery times are shown before you place an order. Personalised products may require production time before dispatch. Please tell us before ordering if a particular delivery date is essential so we can confirm whether we can agree to it.

We will deliver within the agreed period. If no delivery period is agreed, delivery will be without undue delay and no later than 30 days after the contract is made. If a delay occurs, we will tell you and explain your options.

Where the law allows you to end the contract for late or failed delivery, you may do so and receive the refund you are entitled to. This includes where an agreed essential delivery date is missed, delivery is refused, or an appropriate additional deadline has not been met.

Goods remain our responsibility until they are physically received by you or a person you nominate, except where you independently arrange a carrier not offered by us. Contact us about missing, damaged or misdelivered parcels; you are not required to pursue our carrier yourself.

Changing your mind

The statutory change-of-mind cancellation right does not apply to goods made to your specifications or clearly personalised, such as a mat printed with your chosen name, initials, house number or wording. This exception does not remove your rights if an item is faulty, incorrect or not as described.

A standard, non-personalised design does not lose its cancellation rights simply because it is made after ordering. If your purchase is not within a legal exception, you may cancel without giving a reason by telling us within 14 days after the day you, or your nominated recipient, receive the goods. For qualifying items in one order delivered separately, the period starts after receipt of the last item.

To cancel, email hello@thedoorstepedit.co.uk or write to our address above with a clear statement, your name and enough information to identify the order. You may use the model form below, but it is not compulsory. For personalised orders, contact us promptly if you wish to cancel; we will consider whether we can accommodate the request, but this is not a general change-of-mind entitlement.

Where you have a statutory cancellation right, return the goods within 14 days after notifying us. You pay the direct cost of a change-of-mind return unless we agree otherwise. Please contact us for suitable return instructions; if no alternative is provided, use our business address above. Contacting us first helps routing but does not make your legal cancellation rights conditional on our approval.

We will refund the purchase price and the basic outbound delivery charge for a cancelled order. If you chose a more expensive delivery method, we need not refund the amount above our least expensive standard option. We may make a lawful deduction for loss in value caused by handling beyond what is reasonably necessary to establish the goods' nature, characteristics and functioning.

Refunds for returned goods are made without undue delay and no later than 14 days after we receive the goods or evidence that they were sent back, whichever is earlier. If no goods have been supplied, we refund within 14 days after you tell us you are cancelling. Refunds use the original payment method unless you agree otherwise, with no refund fee.

Faulty, damaged or incorrect items

We must supply goods that are of satisfactory quality, fit for purpose and as described. This applies equally to personalised products and sale items. If an item arrives damaged, faulty or with personalisation that differs from the agreed order, email us with your order details and a description of the problem. Photographs can help us assess it, but do not replace your legal rights.

Under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, you normally have a short-term right to reject faulty goods within 30 days of delivery and receive a refund. After that, you may be entitled to a repair or replacement and, where the legal conditions are met, a price reduction or final rejection. The remedy depends on the circumstances and your statutory rights.

We bear the reasonable cost of returning goods where required because they are faulty, damaged or not as described. Contact us so we can arrange an appropriate return or collection. Do not send goods directly to a supplier unless we give you instructions to do so.

An error in personalisation that exactly reproduces details you supplied is not, by itself, a fault on our part. However, we remain responsible for errors we make and for all other applicable consumer obligations.

Our responsibility

We are responsible for loss or damage you suffer that is a foreseeable result of our breach of these terms or our failure to use reasonable care and skill. We do not exclude or limit liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, breach of your statutory rights, or any other liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited.

Products are supplied for domestic and private use. We do not accept liability for business losses arising from commercial use, so far as the law permits. This does not reduce the consumer protections described above.

Privacy

Our Privacy Policy explains how we and our service providers handle personal information, including personalisation and delivery details. Shopify hosts the store and processes customer information to provide its services, including enhanced services described in that policy. Using the website does not, by itself, constitute consent to optional marketing or cookies.

Complaints, law and changes

If something is wrong, contact hello@thedoorstepedit.co.uk or write to our business address. We will investigate and aim to resolve the matter fairly. This does not prevent you using any other remedy available by law.

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. If you are a consumer living elsewhere, you retain the mandatory protections that apply in your place of residence. You may bring proceedings in the courts available to you under applicable consumer law, including your home courts in Scotland or Northern Ireland where relevant.

We may revise these terms for future use and future orders. The version in force when an order is accepted applies to that order unless a change is required by law or you agree otherwise. If a provision is unenforceable, the remaining provisions continue to apply so far as lawful.

Use this form only if you wish to cancel a contract for which a cancellation right applies. You can instead send any other clear cancellation statement.
